Hot Shots is a team-based, out-of- school tennis program that promotes cooperative and competitive play. In its 4-6 sessions, each Hot Shots program fosters principles of teamwork, sportsmanship, and competition and provides kids with skills they can take with them on their journey through the lifetime sport of tennis.
Each session of the Hot Shots program is broken down into four different parts:
Group Games/Play and Tactics
These sections incorporate competitive and/or cooperative games that are engaging and
fun for the kids, developmentally appropriate for kids of all ages to help them achieve quick success, and progressively more difficult to challenge players throughout the entirety of the program.
Players are presented with opportunities to earn points for their teams based on athletic skills, technical performance, and improvement of their game. Sportsmanship points can be also awarded by the instructor to individuals and/or teams that demonstrate qualities like respect, responsibility, honesty, and teamwork.
Instructors, or Commissioners of Play (COPs), can be tennis providers, coaches, teachers, parents, or other types of community leaders – anyone can host a Hot Shots program! These individuals are presented with the opportunity to run an incredibly flexible program that can be customized to best fit their site/location, group of players, and schedule.
Incentives are also provided to both our participants and instructors:
Players receive a complimentary Hot Shots t-shirt that they can wear during their program.
COPs are provided with a free equipment package to help them run their program and to maximize its success.
Each COP receives a stipend from USTA Texas to thank them for their support of and dedication to Texas tennis.
